Exist Immortal/InRetropect/Blind Summit/Kaparilion -

Corporation, Sheffield, Thursday 27th October 2022

Kicking off with a Prog-Metalcore outfit from Chesterfield, Kaparilion take the stage. Their groovy bass lines and chugging riffs made the audience move and mosh. The bass playing is some of the best I have seen for a long time and did not disappoint.

The guitar playing was insane with licks and riffs that really drove a heavy sound that rocked the audience. Alex Kirk's mix of clean and growls/shouts hit me with an Opeth-y vibe and a discussion after the set he told me that Opeth are one of their influences.

One thing I really like about the band is how they have put a proggy sound on Metalcore. This is something that really makes them stick out and they are definitely a band you need to check out. 'Time Will Tell' was my favourite track and this is really one of those songs I can really go crazy and mosh to.

A great local(ish) band that really blew me away. I would see them at any gig they played.

Blind Summit are a band that I couldn't possibly box into a genre. Pushing the limits of heavy sounds.

Their metal instrumentalism with a pop-like female vocalist makes for a really eclectic sound. '303' was an excellent track and showcases the boundary breaking sound the band has down so well.

I can really see this band getting big and rising to popularity as they make heavy music accessible while retaining the metal sound that they mix so well. The bass guitar has a good amount of presence in the music being a strong backbone to the music.

The penultimate band, InRetrospect's reputation speaks for itself. Their soul punching riffs and powerful vocals really drove home that Metalcore sound.

Their mix of screams/growls and clean vocals cemented their sound and the Vocalist really guided the music, changing the sound with each note. The Guitarist played synced, beautifully heavy riffs and breakdowns that made the crowd lose themselves in the pit.

The Bassist and Drummer gave that ‘core’ backbone to the music, providing the lower notes and beats needed. InRetrospect are definitely on their way to being the next big thing in Metalcore.

Finally, the headliners take to the stage. Exist Immortal have rocked the Metalcore scene since their Debut E.P. 'Dream Sequence' back in 2013.

They have secured themselves as one of the top Metalcore bands in the UK. The solos and riffs from the guitarists really was a testament to the technical skill of the band, showcasing their talent and dedication to their craft. They put on an excellent show, capping the night off brilliantly.

They have definitely outdone themselves with this gig and they are going from strength to strength.

9/10
