Jason Charles Miller – NAMM, Anaheim Convention Centre, Anaheim, California, USA, Sunday, January 21st, 2017
Set List: The River/Here To Kill The Pain/Natural Born Killer/Get What You Pay For/Damn Love/Finding My Way From The Dark/ Riverbank/The Line.
Well I met this cat a couple of years ago with Amy Rae Yard who interviewed him – funnily enough, also at NAMM. Speed on to 2017 and here we are, back again, but this time to see him play live on the ESP/Takamine stage for a strong ‘n’ healthy 36 minutes of acoustic Country and Southern Rock in front of a very appreciative audience.
Mr. Miller has placed together a marvellous line-up comprising of Guitarists, Gary Potter Jr & John Huldt; Zack Hall on Bass with Neil Gaffney taking care of Drums/Percussion. They hadn’t had too much time to rehearse together either but you would have never guessed though because the performance was sheer perfection throughout.
The main man played a $1500 Takamine TK 340 for it too that has a baked top to give it that 100 years feel but without the warping and worn out frets – perks of being endorsed! They could literally take anything off the wall and play it, Jason told us. Nice!
The set with its acoustic beauty fills the room with an ambience of pure love and warmth where we are treated to heartfelt songs telling you about real life and it’s ups and downs. Highlights include the ballads ‘Natural Born Killer’ where Jason holds on them high notes for a good while; the toe-tappin’ ‘Get What You Pay For’ and the marvellous ‘Riverbank’ with some outstanding banjo not to mention the infectious ‘n’ addictive chorus!
Closing with ‘The Line’, this was a set I was happy I got to see as part of the incredible Namm experience – Zombie and Church Day all in one! That line will keep on rising and so will Jason’s fanbase.
