Skindeep - New Life
(S/R – 2018)
Skindeep's line of dealings is described, as let rip by the promo, as being a sonic blend of Black Sabbath, Metallica, Alice in Chains and Nirvana influences, but severely tipped towards the former two.
The Exeter quartet drive hard down, with all eight hands held on a grip, from the very second the opening title track hits the lens. Slamming grindy twin guitar riffage with riffs going round and round like a wheel running off its brakes scarcely sounds this immediate. Singer Tristan's snarly nasal range fastens some fantastic choruses to the tops of 'Enemy', 'Blood On My Hands', 'Hard To Get', 'Anger Waits', 'Rain Down' and 'Bleed' that give these tracks metal disco status in extra bludgeoning measure.
Rough as a badger's nether regions, and ready as a microwave ravioli, Skindeep's debut album has been some years in development but this has only added to the destruction about to be unleashed. Excellent display from one another home-grown metal firework. Get this bunch's blue touch paper lit as soon as you can.
