Winter Rocks - Corporation, Sheffield, Saturday December 3rd 2022
Well we caught a couple of them earlier in the day on the VIP stage in more of an acoustic stripped down format but now we get to see the full band on the big stage in their powerful electric format. They consist of Goliath Furr (Lead Vocals), Darryl Silvera (Guitar), Dallas Dwight (Guitar), Rahsaan Lacey (Bass) & Ryan Fosnow (Drums).
To say they were sensational would be an understatement since in my opinion and many others, these guys should have headlined maybe? They had that pzzazz and warm togetherness that oozed from the stage and out tom the people making it all one and gave us a good going over with their own superb songs, some of which they treated us to earlier plus a few choice covers too. When your own songs are as good as those written by other people then you know you are onto something - The LA Maybe are one of those such bands.
They have this real strong presence in every way possible. No band member took it for granted by going through the motions in their allocated time slot - these guys had something to prove since they were in the UK in front of a new audience and made every second count. I know it sounds cliche, but these boys via California showed the British bands how it should be done with their instantly likeable rock 'n' roll flashness.
Highlights of their set include the opening Van Halen like 'Sucker Punch'; the crunchy moderate tempo'd 'Mr. Danger'; the beautiful ballads in 'The Long Road' & 'Take Me Away'; the energetic rocker that is 'Down To Fight' and closed with a 7 plus minute version 'Oh Sugar' that we got treated to earlier that day! We so look forward to seeing them back in Sheffield!

It was back to the small stage for the last time this weekend to catch Bastette with Caroline Kenyon carrying the flag for the female fronters on the main day. She engaged with everyone in the packed room and many of the guys were at the front who hardly moved from their position throughout. The rest of the band line-up is completed by Sam Newiss (Lead Guitar), Eoin Kelly (Rhythm Guitar), Paddy Duffy (Bass) & Rob Hirst (Drums).
Miss. K hardly kept still throughout their performance and blew the room up with songs like the opening S&M, pain-filled 'Fiction'; the powerful 'Exposed'; the ballsy 'Talk About It'; the beautiful 'Sunglasses' and moody closer 'Rollercoaster'. Sheffield appears to love her.

Headlining Winter Rocks 2022 of course on the main stage were The New Roses from Germany (Rheingau to be exact) who are made up of Timmy Rough (Vocals/Guitar), Urban Berz (Drums), Norman Bites (Guitar) and Hardy (Bass).
A tasty Rock 'N' Roll filled set was given that even featured Dallas from The LA Maybe guesting with them on a cover of Neil Young's 'Rockin' In The Free World' much to the love of everyone in here. Highlights included the opening 'The Usual Suspects' that set the level of what we were get from them; '"2nd 1st Time' with the crowd singalong and the country of 'Life Ain't Easy For A Boy With Long Hair'.
Then there was the tribal blasting rocker that is 'War Paint'; the fabulous 'Forever Never Comes' with yet more singalong from the Steel City fans with 'Glory Road' going back to that country feel again and a cracking ending with a ton of guests on the stage that included various members of the Winter Rocks Team like Main Man, Jon Hardcastle plus Caz Parker of course on a brilliant rendition of 'Old Time Rock 'n' Roll' that was made famous by Billy Joel back in the day.
What a great time we all had - here's to the next one!
