Double Vision - Double Vision

(Frontiers Music SRL - 2025)

(Rock)

Chandler Mogel - Vocals. Scott Duboys – Drums. Scott Metaxas – Bass. Chris Schwartz – Guitar. Paul Baccash – Guitar and Alex Lubin – Keyboards are Double Vision. A band who began life as a Foreigner tribute act. The overall sound of these US based melodic rockers lends heavily from Foreigner, Toto and Styx on this self-titled debut release. Despite not being original, Double Vision make up for this by producing an album of quality in this field of rock. It’s easy listening, laid back rock like the aforementioned bands would have produced back in their heydays.

Chandler Mogel has the perfect vocal style and range to deliver these songs as they deserve. ‘The Man You Make Me’, ‘Youphoria’, ‘Look Out For Me’, ‘A Stranger’s Face’ and ‘This Day and Age’ are among the songs where his voice impresses the most. The ballads in particular are sung with real feeling in his delivery. The Guitar duo of Schwartz and Baccash shine in the likes of ‘I Know The Way’, ‘Youphoria’, ‘Church of The Open Mind’. ‘This Day and Age’ and ‘Love Could Rule’. These songs offer some lovely riffs and solos across them. Keyboardist Alex Lubin adds plenty of moments of addition melodic magic in tracks like ‘I Know The Way’, the instrumental ‘Transient Times’, ‘Church of the Open Mind’ ‘Once Before’ and ‘This Day and Age’. Metaxas (Bass) and Scott Duboys (Drums) also more than play their roles over the 13 songs on the album. Duboys in particular showcases some great drumming on the likes of ‘Youphoria’, ‘A Stranger’s Face’, ‘This Day and Age and ‘Love Could Rule. Metaxas’s bass line in album closer ‘Love Could Rule’ is the groove filled heartbeat of the track.

My favourite songs on the album are ‘Youphoria’, ‘Once Before’ and ‘Love Could Rule’. As touched upon earlier, Double Vision might lean heavily on the sound of their influences. But they do it with enough talent and skill to make this debut album a likeable, enjoyable listen.
