Ignescent – Eternal
(Frontiers Music SRL - 2026)

(Genre: Modern Alt. Metal)
From the City that gave the world the best NBA team of the 90’s that is Gotham City in the Dark Knight trilogy and also the hometown of 'the best in the world' CM Punk.
Chicago modern rock/metal act, Ignescent release their new album ‘Eternal’. Not familiar with their work up to this point, I am intrigued what this modern alternative metal band have up their sleeves.
Jennifer Benson (Vocals), Andre Leon (Guitars), Mikey Green (Bass) and Kohl Coryell (Drums) make up this four piece who offer a sound that has nods to Flyleaf, Evanescence and Skillet. Ignescent will certainly appeal to fans of these types of bands. It doesn’t however grab this particular listener.
There is a metallic sound to the music throughout the majority of the album. It doesn’t really have any impact though, its just there. Benson’s vocal is solid but isn’t great enough to really level up the songs either. She does have some good moments like on the ballad ‘Light Up The Night’ and ‘Alone in the Dark’ for example.
I personally think there are a lot better female voices in these types of bands that Benson is like. ‘Fearless’, the two previously mentioned tracks and ‘Chariot of Fire’ are the songs I liked the most from the 10 that ‘Eternal’ offers.
At little more than thirty minutes long the album doesn’t outstay its welcome or become a chore to listen to. Neither did it ignite my interest, despite the flaming horse and chariot adorning the album cover. This is only their second album release since forming in 2018.
Perhaps bigger and better things are to come for Ignescent with a long career ahead of them.
