Stormzone – Immortal Beloved

(S/R-2026)

(Genre: Metal)

Here we go, let’s ROCK! Stormzone are from Northern Ireland. They are a bit of a genre hybrid as they incorporate Doom Metal into their Progressive Symphonic sound.

The band have undergone many changes to get to this point in their career. The music isn’t all power and dynamics as illustrated by ‘Blood And Tears’ which begins with some gentle keys and gives Vocalist, John Harbinson the chance to demonstrate his range.

It has an epic feel and is a welcome break from the power of the other songs with the drumming of Pedro Uhlin making it quite relentless in volume, the bass playing, of I assume his sibling, Jan Uhlin adds thunder. The guitars explode throughout filling almost every empty space, though I have to admit Shaun Nelson-Frame and David Shields can certainly play their instruments well with some creative entwining of the dual axes.

I doubt this will be an album I will be returning to frequently as it lacks melody in my opinion. At the end a very appreciated silence descends on my ears and room, phew. Many will enjoy this especially the time changes that do their best to enhance the choruses.

Within their chosen genre, Stormzone will attract a strong following but there is little that sets them apart from the crowd, one for those that like frenzied mayhem, I guess you need to experience them live to fully appreciate their noise. ‘Blood And Tears’ is the best song by a mile.

The album cover is by the legend that is Rodney Matthews, as always it is excellent.
