Convulsif – Extinct

(Hummus Records – 2020)

Swiss experimentalists Convulsif are another act I've not managed to catch hold of on the past times they tried to slip past.

Listening to what is here, the fifth album of theirs, it might be understandable as to why they failed to get too much attention outside of their native turf. That these four lads can play is totally without saying, but most other instrumental outfits I'm subject to usually serve up a bit more pace and structure across even just thirty eight minutes.

Slow haunting bass and some pretty d-sharp violin work and a few pretty tilts towards Porcupine Tree keep 'Extinct' from becoming totally that but these six tracks just drag with direction changes often taking forever to happen.

There are a array of sweet ambient parts spread about the album but overall, I'm still a bit slow to regret letting this lot sail me by.

5/10
