The Night Eternal - Cold Velvet
(Metal Blade Records - 2026)

(Genre: Heavy Metal)
The Night Eternal are a German four piece who blend a traditional heavy metal sound with plenty of goth rock flavour added in.
‘Cold Velvet’ is their debut release on the Metal Blade Records label but the bands third full length offering. ‘Moonlit Cross’ and ‘Fatale’ the previous releases from the band. Ricardo Baum (Vocals) has a style that reminds me a lot of Matt Barlow (Iced Earth) with a touch of Robert Smith (The Cure) mixed in.
Aleister Prakelt (Drums) is an impressive force behind the kit throughout the albums 8 tracks. Robert Richter and Henry Kaseberg (Guitars) offer loads of classic heavy metal stylings with their playing. Delivering some nice melody and solos across the album. Unfortunately I couldn’t find anywhere that stated who plays bass on the album. In any chase the bass playing, along with the drum work from Prakelt is constantly the foundation of each track.
‘Cold Velvet’ opens with ‘Where This World Ends’. Straight away you hear the blend of heavy metal with goth rock elements. ‘Caught in a Spell’ also shows this mix of styles off that The Eternal Night have crafted. The album is solid from the get go but the closing trio of tracks ‘The Watcher of the Burning Veil’, ‘Shape of Sorrow’ and ‘Dance on Crimson Ground’ is where I feel it really hits full stride. Album closer ‘Dance on Crimson Ground’ is my favourite on the album.
If you like traditional heavy metal and don’t mind a bit of melancholic goth rock mixed in. Then The Night Eternal are well worth a listen.
