Winter Rocks - Corporation, Sheffield, Saturday December 3rd 2022

Rotherham's Tom Killner Band are an outfit who I have seen several times in the last year or so and never cease to impress with their own take of Southern Rock. It's like listening to a young Joe Cocker on Guitar who can play like a Country outlaw - imagine Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard and Albert Lee crossing paths with Duane Allman, Rickey Medlocke and Gary Rossington and you are getting close to what to expect from this local rising star.

The other members of the band consist of Wes Brook (Keyboards/Hammond Organ, Callum Houghton (Bass) & Rich Hunter (Drums) who compliment and match Tom perfectly - it's little wonder these guys are inundated with live session work because they are that f*ck*ng good!

They literally grab you in the first second with their outstanding Americana sounds - you'd never think they came from South Yorkshire since they carve out pure Dixie, swamp-filled greatness and beyond. You've gotta be dead if you cannot tap your foot and get hooked by these guys! With songs like 'Working Man' and a fab cover of 'With A Little Help From My Friends' these guys can do no wrong in here!

The Fallen State are a modern sounding bunch of Metalheads made up of Adam Methven (Vocals), Jon Price (Guitar), Dan Oke (Guitar), Greg Butler (Bass) & Rich Walker (Drums) and hail from the South East of the UK.

They have more of that post grunge kinda sound that's been popular for a few years - think Three Doors Down, Shinedown, Nickelback and other such bands and even those from the British Isles like Stone Broken.

An 8 song strong set that includes the opening 'For My Sorrow' which sets the picture for what's to follow which ticks all the above said boxes, the melodic downward groove of 'Standing Tall', the beautiful prog-lke starting intro'd 'Mirror' that has some very high metallic guitar working against the down-tuned Tool'esque rhythm sounds and finishing on the highly popular on digital platforms ballad 'Nova'.

A'priori are Blackpool based trio that are new to me although they've been at it a while and have a line-up of Tony Lang (Vocals/Guitar), Mouse (Drums) & Mark Wilson (Keyboards).  The small room is packed to the rafters for their melting pot of sounds.

They mould into the blues with opener 'Burn The World' or going into territory of almost White Stripes territory with 'Making Love With The Devil' shows you they are unpredictable and you just don't know what to expect next. Stoner is delved into with 'Black Church' and funky disco in 'Nah Nah Nah Nah' . An interesting act to say the least and worth checking out.
