Psychomotor - The Rumsey Wells, Norwich, 29th March 2026

Setlist: Hurricane Of Arrest/Under The Wings Of Death/Can’t See Straight/Charred Ropes/Resident/Sad But True (cover)/Psychomotor/Wash/Whispers Of Misfortune/Leftovers/Organic Mechanic/Steel Doesn’t Feel.

After a protracted absence from the live scene Psychomotor return for this the launch of their debut album.

There was is air of emotional expectancy from both the band members and the crowd that was in attendance. It really is going to be a rocking, rollercoaster of a ride, but moments before the band explode into life Drummer, Rhys Cooksley opens a window to release some of the heat from the sauna like venue.

As he returns to his drum stool his set list escapes via the now gaping window and flutters down the Norwich Street, he looks momentarily both perplexed and aghast! Thankfully a replacement was soon found, it is impossible to imagine a drummer managing to perform without the required information, now armed with his pink sticks Cooksley was ready and soon cooking after this brief hiatus.

I have used the word emotional already, that word needs context. For ten years Psychomotor have been away as they come to terms with the tragic loss of Guitarist, Kamil Wisniewski. The gig tonight was not just about the debut album; it was to celebrate the life and work of Kamil…

Are you ready for some Metal? Let’s Rock! The set kicks things off explosively with brooding power of ‘Hurricane Of Arrest’ followed by the immense and intense ‘Under The Wings Of Death’. If there were any nerves the band dispensed with them immediately!

They have this compact venue moshing and headbanging from the off, I for one foresaw a problem, playing your best two songs, in my opinion, so early could leave the rest of the set exposed, thankfully other songs rose to the challenge.

With Cooksley providing the oomph and bang from his drums and Sudder delivering some brutal bass the rhythm section built the scaffold for Shepherd to deliver monstrous riffs and vicious powerful vocals. Bang in the middle of the set comes a cover of Metallica’s ‘Sad But True’, which gives everyone the chance to go mental! The title track comes next and oooooooh! Ladies and gentlemen just witness the guttural aggression from the frontman; let’s all go psycho!

One man who I haven’t mentioned yet is long time friend, Greg Babstock, who plays extra guitar, he really looks the part, his hair is so long that I tripped over it while taking photos!

The gig closes with ‘Organic Mechanic’ and ‘Steel Doesn’t Feel’, the show has a truly celebratory feel, there has been times during the gig that the band members have looked lost for words, there is no escaping the fact that Psychomotor have waited a long time to do this.

They have a dynamic sound and personality, what they do next is important to gain traction and momentum. My advice would be to get regular support slots in the area, use the Brickmakers and Waterfront Studio.

Sam Sheperd, Dylan Sudder, Rhys Cooksley and maybe Greg Babstock you need to get the gigs in, get your Metal to the masses, never forgetting your friend, Kamil…
