Wolfsbane/This House We Built -
Greystones, Sheffield, Friday 5th December, 2025
Openers for the night are Scarborough's, 80's styled Rockers, 'This House We Built', who formed in 2020 during lockdown and consist of Scott Wardell (Vocals/Guitars/Percussion); Andy Jackson (Vocals/Guitars); Chris Mayes (Drums/Vocals) & Wayne Dowkes-White (Bass Guitar).
On walk the intimidating looking Bass Guitarist and Lead Guitarist. These two hug fellas take their places. Bassist, Wayne looks soooo cool with his hoodie, ripped sleeves and sunglasses....in doors! Seriously he couldn't get more cooler if he tried. The Lead Guitarist, Andy on the other side is a man mountain with a smile.

The Drummer, Chris Mayes is your usual animated dude but with an added cheeky grin and enthusiasm. I had never seen or heard this band before so I wasn't sure if what to expect. The Singer, Scott blew me away with how good he is. His voice is outstanding as is his stage presence. He certainly knows how to get the crowd going.
Wayne wasn't your typical 'stand there and play' bassist type either. He moved around and danced which is unlike most bass players. Lead Guitarist, Andy is such a good axe man - his riffs and solos were on point. The songs came fast and hard. All musicians top of their game. These are good enough to be the main act. After watching them I was straight on Spotify to download their music.

An excellent performance and set.
The legendary headliners tonight, Wolfsbane are made up of Blaze Bayley (Vocals), Jase Edwards (Guitar), Jeff Hateley (Bass) & Steve Danger (Drums). Before I start talking about the gig itself I would like to say that following Jase Edwards diagnosis of myeloma, Jase and his wife, Lynne, have been busy raising funds in support of our work through band merchandise raffles, collection buckets, and even a 'round-the-world' exercise bike ride.
On the merch stand there were donation buckets. If you want to do your bit please use this link and donate to a worthy cause: fundraising@myeloma.org.uk
Before the show started, Jase was off stage preparing himself for the energy sapping mammoth task of performing a full on heavy metal set. With help, Jase was brought on stage to appreciative applause.
When the fever of the crowd was at its peak a Stetson wearing, amazingly named Steve Danger walked on stage, waving his gloved hands to the cheering crowd and got behind the kit. He was followed by Bassist, Jeff Hateley wearing shades.

Then the crowd went crazy as Blaze Bayley finally entered the stage. The band burst into an excellent heavy metal, headbanging start. Blaze didn't notice the over-eager metal head fall backwards onto the stage, knocking the speaker and Blaze's cheat sheets.
He got up before Blaze had noticed. Mr. Bayley looked at his words and was confused as they were no longer in position. So while he performed we had a tech guy trying to arrange the notes. Through all this Blaze didn't miss a word or falter in his performance.
The same fan was right up in all the musicians faces trying to get their attention or get a fist bump. Blaze handled him with perfect professionalism by grabbing his hands and getting him to hold the speaker so Blaze could put his leg on it. That kept him busy for a song or two.
Blaze stopped singing to talk to the fans, laughing and joking before blasting into another classic Wolfsbane number. I actually think this is the best Blaze has ever sounded. I had never appreciated how good a guitar player Jase was until this gig. Watching him play was a genuine pleasure.

Despite any pain or discomfort he may have been feeling he certainly didn't show it. He was watching the band, scanning the crowd and taking it all in. Smiling as he played, leaving the energetic displays to Blaze and Jeff.
Half way through the set Jeff threw his shades into the crowd, so I gave him my pair of Ozzy glasses which he wore for a number. He looked very hip showing us his V sign. The Steve Danger drumming was wild and as excellent a display as you would be expecting. The white gloved showed his hands to be nothing but a blur of action.
Jeff was really getting into the spirit of the show with some jumps and even a high kick! At our age that will be felt in the morning I am sure. But it was Blaze that was the focal point. He was leaning into the crowd, standing with Jase. Getting the audience to raise their hands, pump their fists and clap. He was making the crowd work and getting the best out of them. He wanted to give them the best show and the band really delivered.

The crowd loved hearing and singing such great classic Wolfsbane songs like 'Man Hunt', 'Loco', 'Spit It out', 'Smoke And Red Light' and of course 'Paint The Town Red'. The whole set and performance were outstanding.
A really great night.
