'Replenish 30 Year Anniversary Tour'

Opening up the evening is Terrorvision frontman, Tony Wright, with his Yorkshire roots giving an instant connection with the Leeds crowd. Playing his own material alongside a stripped down version of 'Alice? Whats The Matter' from his band Terrorvision.

Clearly feeling at home on the stage and engaging with the crowd whilst leading chants of 'Yorkshire' and encouraging the purchase of merch including his TWAT (Tony Wright Acoustic Tour) t-shirts. A fine way to start the show.

Despite being the special guests on this tour, Irish alternative Metallers, Kerbdog clearly outnumbering the headliners in the t-shirt stakes, needed no introduction to the crowd. Everyone I spoke to came here for one reason only and most had followed the band from the beginning of the 90’s taking in full tours with the band and all subsequent recent shows. A truly cult band who definitely deserved to make it much bigger than they did.

Opening with the mighty 'Pledge' and the 1997 single, 'Mexican Wave'. 'Secure' and 'Severed' are next before a slow and deliberate build up brings us to 'End Of Green', the only inclusion from the self titled debut album. 'On The Turn' and 'Sally' follow before closing with the 'JJ’s Song'.

30 years on from releasing their debut album 'Replenish' and 30 years since I first saw the band in early 1995 at the Leadmill in Sheffield on the back of the single release of 'Naked' and inclusion on the Sony Mini-Disc advert.

The first half of the set is the 'Replenish' album in full. Recent addition on guitar, Amy Newton plays every guitar part perfectly and despite only being in the band a couple of years has a flawless connection with the rhythm section of Luke Bullen on drums and bearded Bassist, Jack Bessant.

The album goes down well from opener 'Feed Me' all the way through to the appropriately titled 'End'. Not surprisingly 'Naked' receives the biggest response from the crowd. Frontman, Gary Stringer brings his trademark vocal style, gritty, soulful and still as good live as on record.

After the more laid back groove of the first half of the show, it is the 2nd half of the set where things really come to life. Setting the tone with the no nonsense 'Stone For Your Love' before fan favourites 'I Would Have Left You', 'Higher Vibration' and the sing along anthem 'Place Your Hands'.

This second part has a heavier, more rock feel, led by one of my favourites, 'New Bird' before finishing with a 'cover' of 'They Wont Be There For You' from Gary and Jack's other band Them Is Me and 'Come Back Brighter' and the hard hitting 'Yer Old'.

3 contrasting styles and 3 fantastic acts in their own right but all worked perfectly together for an unforgettable night and a brilliant way to celebrate one of the 90's underrated albums.
