An Interview with

'Pantheon'

that took place on Friday 14th May, 2025

who play

'Mountains Of Metal'

on July 5th @ Network, Sheffield.

Interviewed by Glenn Milligan.

Glenn: Tell us all about how your band came to be and what roles you all have?

Matt, the bass player ended up being the bassist after misreading an advert for a vocalist and wrongly applying.

Kieron, Guitarist, one of the founders of the band, initially began the project with Jake back in October of 2024.

Jake, Rhythm Guitar, as Kieron says we thought of the idea to jam together one day and here we are!

Jordan, vocals, I joined via a Facebook ad because I wanted to get back into the real world after years of only performing online from my bedroom.

Glenn: Where did your name initially come from?

It was one of those things that kind of just happened out of nowhere, we needed a name for the band and Pantheon just seemed to work for the music. Plus, all of us in the band love our mythology.

Glenn: Who would you say have been your main inspirations and influences and why either individually or as a band unit?

Matt: Individually from me, I draw inspiration from Behemoth, Rotting Christ and Septicflesh. I find their song writing and melodic approach inspiring.

Kieron: Individually – Gojira, Trivium, Orbit Culture & Sylosis. What can I say I'm a big Metalcore Kid at heart but have found a lot of the Metalcore stuff has translated really well into writing the stuff Pantheon writes.

Jake: Personally for myself they are Orbit Culture, Rotting Christ, Ignea and anything Phrygian for that exotic noise!

Jordan: I’m inspired by the vocalists who have pushed the boundaries of vocal range and variety in death metal over the last decade or so, originating with Travis Ryan of Cattle Decapitation, and continued by Dickie Allen of Infant Annihilator, Ben Duerr of Shadow Of Intent & Duncan Bentley ex-Vulvodynia.

Glenn: How would you describe your band to somebody who had never heard you before that will be seeing you live on Saturday July 5th?

A big mix of multiple genres, influences and musical ideas. We aren't writing for convention or to be slotted into a genre, we are writing what feels right to us, what sounds right to us and what makes us unique in comparison to others.

But for the TL:DR – Progressive Death Metal.

Glenn: What songs are you most proud of that you have released so far and for what reasons?

Matt: I’m proud of everything we have achieved as this unit. The song writing has thought applied, and we are trying to not sound anyone else. I think our 4 track Live E.P. 'Live in the Room' puts this across quite well.

Kieron: I’m aligned with Matt on this. There’s no one song in particular that’s a big ‘ah ha’ moment for us. All of the songs have been given the same time and dedication in each stage of writing, but if i was using a song to introduce someone to Pantheon, I'd recommend 'Sun God'.

Jake: This is a hard one because each song we write just gets better and better, but I would recommend 'Sun God' as you’ll experience every emotion possible in one song.

Jordan: My favourite is 'Anemoia'. It traverses across many extreme genres from death to doom to grind to black to groovy with 8 different vocal techniques in one song to accompany them, including styles I’ve never done before, so it’s a cool challenge for me.

Glenn: What would you say have been the most stand-out moments/highlights in the bands career so far and why?

Kieron: As the band is still quite young we haven't had chance to garner a lot of ‘highlight’ moments. But i think I can say with all safety that we are all really proud of the ‘Live in the Room’ E.P.

Matt: Moving into a realm of zero amps, using in ear monitors and not having a drummer has been daunting and extremely freeing. As a bassist who loves the feel of the air from my rig behind me this was almost a terrifying concept but its working wonderfully for our approach.

Jake: As Kieron says the band is still young but our speed in catching up to modern times and going digital for 'Live in the Room' is astonishing.

Jordan: Doing our first Facebook livestream while running and coordinating all the tech was a very stressful but extremely rewarding challenge.

Glenn: What have been the funniest, most Spinal Tap moments in the band?

Matt: Turning up our non-existent amp knobs up to 11.

Kieron: Watching Matt's stank face come out when I worked out the harmony part to our track 'Anemoia' and he had it going real time into his in-ears.

Jake: I had a brief but very loud Mangasm during Ethereal when the Breakdown half times, and it was caught on camera...

Jordan: Accidentally blasting through the PA at full volume at unexpected times during every practice, scaring everyone.

Glenn: What revs you up and gets you going before getting on stage?

Kieron: The love of the craft, and the peace being on stage brings me. I get to spend 30 minutes putting on a kick ass performance to crowds of people both familiar and unfamiliar with our music. I don’t have to think about anything else but the performance, the band and the stage.

Jake: Guess I’ll find out at Mountains of Metal as it will be my first ever show!!!

Matt: After 20+ years in bands, I need to find my place of zen, so I generally just chill and warm up before I hit the stage. Essentially, I try to conserve my energy for when it’s needed.

Jordan: The faces of the crowd, interacting with them and getting to see their reaction up close when we blow them away. If the crowd isn’t moving, I’m not screaming hard enough.

Glenn: What would you most like to fulfil as a band when it comes to the bucket list?

Matt: Playing an international festival such as Wacken or Brutal Assault would be an absolute dream come true.

Kieron: International festival somewhere out in Europe. Europe has an incredible metal scene. A tour in support of an album release would also be a standout.

Jake: International festivals in front of thousands of metal fans from around the world.

Jordan: I’d love to tour with the band, playing every night and living it rough in a dirty bus.

Glenn: What does it mean to you to play the 'Mountains of Metal' All-Dayer alongside the other bands on the bill?

Kieron: It's a big honour for us to be put alongside such great talent so early into the bands career. And a big gateway into building the bands fanbase. We hope to see faces new and old and make new friends along the way.

Jake: It feels incredible to be given this opportunity so early on the bands life and to be playing along with the other incredible artists, it will be an incredible day & night.

Matt: Stoked to have been offered this at such an early point in the bands life. I do believe that the music and energy that we will bring will leave a lasting effect on the crowd.

Jordan: We're so excited to be kicking off the band’s career with gigs already and can’t wait to play alongside and hang with some very cool acts.

Glenn: What special message do you have to the folk who are coming to the show?

Kieron: Drink plenty, have fun, and support your local talent. We are bringing a killer show as I'm sure the other acts are too, and we want you to go away from the show remembering our name, our sound, and hell maybe even a few of the words to one of our songs.

Jake: Enjoy the incredible show, we appreciate everyone who’s coming to support Pantheon and many other artists, you may even get to see Matt’s incredible Crabwalk on bass!

Matt: Come early, support all the bands and have a great day. Without grass roots events like this, there is no musical future, use it or lose it.

Jordan: Get ready for an absolutely unforgettable day of music! We can't wait to share our music with everyone there and we hope to show people something they’ve never seen before!
