Wow! Just where do I start with this? It is way out of my comfort zone. Hollie Rogers is a ‘Bad Woman’ which as it happens is the fun excellent opening track. She gets treated so wrong but it feels so right! She wants to jump your bones and be part of a holy trinity!

These ten songs are playful and capture the element of being a woman and how you balance your day-to-day affairs with your needs. It is a musical master piece from start to finish. Everything flows to perfection: the music, the vocals and most impressively the lyrics.

‘Everything’s Fine’ highlights the demands of the day: she can’t control her children, there’s bed bugs on her sheet, there’s a fire in the kitchen, but everything’s fine. Piano turns to organ in a jaunty tune that is neurotic and emotional.

​

The album is full of charm and self-effacing humour. Rogers was born in Truro, a place very close to my heart. She worked as a teacher before her dream of becoming a Singer/Musician took her on this journey. My guess is she could have gained plenty of inspiration from her days at the frontline of education, it certainly has for me.

‘He Reminds Me Of You’ deals with a love that you she can’t escape from. Everything he does, the way he speaks, the way he wears his hat reminds her of the other lover. ‘Spaceman’ has the Budapest Symphony Orchestra backing her to beautiful, magical effect. The strings are so evocative. Roger’s voice is stunning as she deals with loss. She sends out a signal to the heavens hoping it will be answered from beyond the stars.

 

Our artist gets plenty of help and assistance on this release, Elles Bailey and Beth Neilsen-Chapman co-write and sing on ‘Everything’s Fine’. Her main band seem to include Ed Blunt (Piano), Stefan Redtenbacher (Bass), Daisy Chute (Backing Vocals), Simon Johnson (Electric Guitar) and Mike Sturgis (Drums). There are others that are too numerous to mention in this article. It is the participation of all involved that makes this record so majestic.

‘She’ deals with the threat of another suitor who flashes her smile amongst other things to gain his attention. Roger’s is never going to give him up. Musically this is Americana with Soul, Blues and Country. It is colourful and full of drama. ‘Sunday Rain’ is a gentle pion to love, those tinker- ling ivories fall like rain. ‘Good God’ Rocks adding a bit of energy!

As I said at the beginning this is way out of my comfort zone. This means I had no expectations, making this an absolute joy to review. ‘Unholy Trinity’ is sassy, punctuated by some ear catching bass lines. It is a bit naughty as the decision is reached, we will make the two into three.

 

‘All For You’ concludes proceedings it is achingly poignant in a manner that I can’t explain, perhaps the line, 'You’ve been surrounded by ones who wanna make you choose' sums it up perfectly. I love this album!
