Opensight - The Outfit

(Inertial Music - 2026)

I have never had the pleasure of listening to Opensight. So this is going to be a bit of an education for me. Opensight are Ivan David Amaya (Vocals/Guitar), Redd Reddington (Drums), Duncan Arkley (Bass & Backing Vocals) & Neil McLaughlin (Guitar).

This is definitely not what I expected. A very unusual start with Mariachi music to start, followed by some really heavy music from the Rhythm section followed by some 70's Funk! All that in the first two minutes of the Album. I have a feeling this is going to be fun.

The music is wild, so many different sounds. The whole structure gives the music a theatrical feel with a heavy side. Ivan's vocals remind me a little of Blaze Bayley but Ivan's voice is a lot cleaner, and of Nick Heyward of an 80s pop band Haircut 100. The writing of each song takes on a journey. Telling a story about hiding and murders.

'In Plain Sight' is already on socials with a video on YouTube. The video is set on stage with a mysterious man controlling the band which takes me back to where I said this feels theatrical. 'Killer Outfit' came out on 8th May and is heavier than most of the tracks with a funky guitar to break things up.

On 'Defying Eye' the guitar playing by I'm guessing it is by Neil, is amazing. I love the heavy break at the start. But the mix of sounds on each song makes it feel heavy, then Jazzy and rock. Quite the mix. With brass instruments added as well as synthesizers this album is certainly keeping me on my toes.

'Mantra' musically is the stand out track for me. But other songs like 'Final Cut" and 'Heist' deserve a mention. This album is so different to anything I have ever listen to before which isn't a bad thing. There is so much going on musically and Ivan's voice is a break from the normal rock voice. Great story telling in a Theatrical Rock and funk style. Incredible talent and vision from the band.

So, you want something totally different and engaging then check it out!
