Interviews with the members of

Fireheart have already amassed a very impressive 2.5k followers without releasing any music. There is a lot of excitement around this band making the release of their first single on 30th April an event!

Here's a little insight in a light-hearted way to who they all are:

Chris Hopton (Drummer): Interviewed April 23rd, 2025

Dale: Can you tell me a little of your band background? Your first band, the band you are most proud of before Fireheart.

Chris: Well as many start out I had some small school bands just playing covers, moving on to starting a metal band with old school friends. My first big drumming project was with 'Life Of A Hero' with Russ. That took a bit of a break and I move to The Offshore had a great time with them and Depping for some touring bands .

I would say I'm proud of everything I've worked on and how it's developed me as a musician.

Dale: The role you have in Fireheart isn't just playing, it is also spreading a message of unity and family. Is this the only band you have been in that has been so interactive with the fan base?

Chris: I would say so ! I've played for a couple bands that are great with their fans/followers . They are basically friends with them. But we have started more of a community. Everyone chips in and helps keep each other going.

Dale: What musician has influenced you the most?

Chris: I take inspiration from lots of musicians but narrowing down to one for drumming. I would probably have to say Lars Ulrich (Metallica). Especially songs from 'The Black Album'. They are heavy, stompy and groovy.

Dale: Chris you play drums, do you have any other talents?

Chris: I play a small amount of guitar and bass . I also sing a bit. But I will be sticking to backing vocals I think.

Dale: Who is the joker in the band?

Chris: I would say most of the band tbh haha. But Bret has the best one liners.

Dale: Who is the most serious?

Chris: I don't think anyone in this band is.

Dale: How many songs are we to expect on the EP and are we allowed to know the titles of the songs?

Chris: There are going to be 5 songs on the E.P.?

Can't name them all but you know 'Staring At The Sun' and 'Remedy' . The 3rd one will be 'Hit The Ground Running'.

Dale: Do you have a first gig already in sight?

Chris: We are sorting details of our first gigs . But no spoilers ! Hahaha.

Dale: What is your colour and what does it represent?

Chris: My colour is orange. It's bright, positive and I would say a strong colour. With my word being strength I think it works ?

Dale: I have one final question. What made you join Fireheart?

It mainly started with Lee looking to make a band . Me and Russ worked on 'The Life Of A Hero' before and always wanted to get going again . Russ and Lee got talking and the ideas along with Kev's key points really stood out to me . Also, the riffs are sick!

Dale: Thank You for your time Chris. Can't wait for the single!

Kev Baker (Rhythm Guitarist/Champion Gurner): Interviewed April 23rd, 2025

Dale: Can you tell me a little of your band background? Your first band, the band you are most proud of before Fireheart.

Kev: My first real band was a scrappy little group called 'Bootleg' back when I barely knew what I was doing but had a ton of passion. I’ve had a few over the years, a very special one to me was ‘For The Forsaken’ which was created by myself and my brother in law and nephew to help battle active addiction, but the one I was most proud of before Fireheart was The Hot One Two. I felt we were building something pretty special rapidly and we had some amazing moments, but being dismissed from it, while tough at the time, led directly to Fireheart being born… and honestly, this feels like the band I was always meant to be in.

Dale: The role you have in Fireheart isn't just playing, it is also spreading a message of unity and family. Is this the only band you have been in that has been so interactive with the fan base?

Kev: This is the only band I’ve been in that’s had such a tight bond with the fans. Fireheart doesn’t treat people as just supporters, we genuinely see them as part of our family. Every message, every comment, every person who turns up to a show, it matters.

We’ve all been through things and come out stronger by being open about it, and that’s exactly what we want to give back. No barrier between us and the people who believe in what we’re doing. No ego’s, false pretences with trying to act as ‘Rockstars’, just being our authentic selves is and should always be enough.

Dale: What musician has influenced you the most?

Kev: Hands down – Slash. I know it’s not the most original answer, but he’s the reason I first picked up a guitar. His feel, his tone, that effortless cool… he made playing guitar feel like storytelling rather than just shredding. That said, as I’ve grown older, people like Mark Tremonti and Myles Kennedy have had just as much influence in shaping how I think about music and melody.

Dale: Kev, have you only ever been a Guitarist or do you have any other talents? And is the face pulling something you do subconsciously? We love the face pulling by the way, don't ever change that!

Kev: Haha, I love that you brought up the face pulling. It’s totally subconscious, I don’t even realise I’m doing it until I see the photos back! But if it entertains people and captures the vibe of the moment, I’m all for it. Other talents? Well… I'm a bit of a spreadsheet nerd at work and have a good skill set in creating skit videos, But guitar has always been the main love.

Dale: Who’s the joker in the band?

Kev: That’d be Bret, our bassist. He’s dry, sarcastic, and constantly throwing in one-liners or random comments that have us all in stitches. Plus, the guy is cooler than ice and I love his kind hearted nature.

Dale: Most serious in the band?

Kev: Probably Russ, our singer. But not in a bad way, he’s just focused, driven, and has a strong sense of what we’re trying to build. When we’re working, he keeps the train on the tracks. He’s also got a heart of gold and really cares about everyone involved.

Dale: How many songs are we to expect on the EP and are we allowed to know the titles of the songs?

Kev: The EP will have five tracks. I can’t give you all the titles as they’re not all set in stone just yet but the ones I can reveal are:

- Staring at the Sun

- Inner Remedy

- Hit the Ground Running

Dale: Do you have a first gig already in sight?

Kev: Yes! Our debut gigs are in the works and should be announced very soon. We’re specifically wanting the first shows to be headline shows is small intimate venues as we want these gigs to be incredibly special experiences for everyone attending.

Dale: Tell me something about each member that you think we should know about them.

Kev: As follows -

• Russ (Vocals): Runs his own IT business, is a devoted dad, and balances being a frontman with being a family man.

• Lee (Lead Guitar): Incredibly expressive player, survived some seriously dark times and has turned his pain into purpose.

• Bret (Bass): Was about to give up music entirely before Fireheart came along – now he’s more fired up than ever.

• Chris (Drums): Battles Crohn’s disease but never lets it define him – an absolute powerhouse on the kit and one of the most determined people I’ve met.

Dale: Your colour and what it represents?

Kev: My colour is Blue. It represents resilience, honesty, and peace after chaos. Blue is calm, but deep, like the ocean. I’ve been through a lot mentally, and this band represents my journey from the darkest parts of myself to something strong, stable, and real.

Thankyou Kev. Can't wait for the next chapter of the Fireheart journey.

Lee Jason (Lead Guitarist): Interviewed April 24th, 2025

Dale: Can you tell me a little of your band background? Your first band, the band you are most proud of before Fireheart.

Lee:: I've played in many bands over the years. My first band was probably the band I put together in school back in the early 2000's. There were a few off shoots of the school bands back then and we'd always jam with different members. I don't think there was ever a solid line-up. Things just kept changing. But I was always happy to jam with anyone. The band I'm probably most proud of before Fireheart is Ryders Creed, purely for the fact that it's the most success I've had in a band... So far!

Dale: The role you have in Fireheart isn't just playing, it is also spreading a message of unity and family. Is this the only band you have been in that has been so interactive with the fan base?

Lee: No not strictly, I've always been interactive but not necessarily in the same way Fireheart are. I'm definitely more of an 'in person' kinda guy. At shows, I'm always happy to be talking to fans being interactive that way. Fireheart will do the same. But I feel there's definitely more interaction online with social media with this band than any other band I've been in.

I don't really enjoy social media myself so I'm still navigating my way with that. That said, by all means, come and say hi at a show and I'm happy to chat or have a beer with anyone who fancies it. Whether that's our own show, or you see me or us out and about at other bands' shows.

Dale: What musician has influenced you the most?

Lee: Difficult to pin point that to one musician. There are several for different reasons. Justin Hawkins of The Darkness I have great respect for. His lead playing on the permission to land album really got me wanting to get better in my early days of playing.

Then there was Slash, who I discovered not long after, who took that to another level for me. Slash was a huge influence on me back in the day. Later came John Petrucci - that guy had me wanting to know everything about music and really pushed my thinking about music. Matt Heafy - I have massive respect for his self discipline in all areas in life and strive to reach that same level of discipline and self control.

There was a guy I used to play in a band with too. Rob, from my old band Promethea. He's a phenomenal player and he really helped me improve just by jamming with him. He set the bar for me on a personal level and I'm still not at his level today!

Last but not least, Billy Kons of Dead Man's Whiskey. I have an unbelievable amount of respect for that guy. Amazing player, great guitar and music taste, and an all round quality geezer. A real good friend. He took me on the road a lot as his guitar tech and I learned a lot from him!

Dale: You play lead guitar, do you have any other talents?

Lee: I can neck a Guinness pretty fast haha! In all seriousness, I play drums at a basic level, some keys also. I play bass, and I once dabbled with the 5 string banjo!

Dale: Who is the joker in the band?

Lee: The whole band is a joke! - I jest. I think we're all jokers in our own way and we're navigating each others sense of humour. I'd say Bret though - purely for that one line he delivered to a photographer on set. The photographer told Bret he knows him from somewhere and without a single hesitation Bret responded, "Yeah you've probably seen me on The Hub" Amazing delivery. Funny guy!

Dale: Who is the most serious?

Lee: Probably Me.

Dale: How many songs are we to expect on the EP and are we allowed to know the titles of the songs?

Lee: Five songs, I'll give you two titles:

· Staring at the Sun

· Inner Remedy

If the other guys wish to divulge the other titles then I don't mind. But that's all I'm giving for now ;)

Dale: Do you have a first gig already in sight?

Lee: We have some dates in mind and are looking into availability. But ultimately we want the first show to be absolutely perfect for the fan base in terms of performance. So we're not rushing anything on that front. We feel the fans, the community, deserve something special and that can't be rushed in my opinion.

Dale: Tell me something about each member that you think we should know about them.

Lee: Tough question since we're still getting to know each other. For myself, y'all should probably know I hate social media - I cannot stand it. I see it's positive opportunities but for myself I can easily get distracted with unimportant doom scrolling and feel awful about myself afterwards. So I try to keep the online stuff to a minimum for now.

Kev - Mad as a hatter. Very persistent! Great with the fan base. If you want to get a word in edgeways, good luck!

Russ - Sometimes socially awkward by his own admission. Which is odd for a front man. Nevertheless, you'll have a positive experience with him!

Bret - *Nods* - That's literally it

Chris - His Missus will knock you the f*ck out if you're not careful! She's golden though, as is Chris!

Dale: What is your colour, what does it represent.

Lee: White - Spirit. Seems pretty fitting for a painter and decorator by trade! Jokes aside, it represents something bigger than ourselves that connects us all in this realm. I believe we all have spirit guides guiding us through life. And White is the bright white light that I find comfort in when Meditating or taking a moment for myself. It's something I find comfort in and feel some kind of protection from when I need it most during my difficult moments in life!

Dale: Brilliant thank you. Adding extra questions exercising my right as a persistent bugger. Who writes the songs? Is at a collaborative effort?

Lee: So for the music, I've written the majority of what's currently being worked on. We've all had our say in terms of final tweaks and arrangements etc. so there's an element of collaboration there. Ultimately I'd like to transition into a more collaborative effort and develop a cohesive sound that Fireheart can be proud of.

I think the upcoming single 'Staring At The Sun' is definitely a sound that Fireheart is suited to for all its members, albeit it was something I'd written a long time ago with different lyrics. Russ reworked the lyrics and turned it into something else which I thought was a positive move forward.

We played with the arrangement together as a band and what you'll hear on release day - April 30th - is that version. It's a song I'm very proud of, is very close to my heart, and I think the lads are also very pleased with the results!

Dale: Thankyou for your time Lee and I can't wait for the single release.

Bret Barnes

(Bassist/Saxophonist/Hair God):

Interviewed April 25th, 2025

Bret Barnes (Bassist/Saxophonist/Hair God): Interviewed April 25th, 2025

Dale: Can you tell me a little of your band background? Your first band, the band you are most proud of before Fireheart.

Bret: A young Bret Barnes started his musical journey as a saxophonist and I’m still on it to be fair! But as a teenager, I learned pretty quickly that rock bands didn’t need sax players and instead needed bass players.

My first band, Left To Burn played their first show in 2011 and I’ve always been in bands since!

I think my proudest musical moment was back in 2016.

The band I was playing bass in, The Bourbon Hounds, supported Tyla’s Dogs D’amour and I was brave/cheeky enough to ask them if they wanted me to join them on stage for the songs that have sax in.

The gladly accepted and it forever changed my life and I’m so grateful that I was given that opportunity to play alongside one of my biggest idols.

Dale: The role you have in Fireheart isn't just playing, it is also spreading a message of unity and family. Is this the only band you have been in that has been so interactive with the fan base?

Bret: I’ve never really been in a band where the online presence is so high but I’ve always always always stuck around after a show to sign things and take pictures and chat and most importantly… drink beer

Dale: What musician has influenced you the most?

Bret: Music that’s had influenced me is the very standard Rock.. Hard Rock, thumbing bass lines from people like Geezer Butler and John Entwistle but I honestly love Country stuff and the coolness of people like Tommy Scifres (Lainey Wilson’s bass man) and J.T Cure (Chris Stapleton's Bassist) have really matured my playing and sound.

Dale: Bret you play Bass and Saxophone, do you have any other talents?

Bret: Bass and sax, I wouldn’t call them talents, many hours of practice and touring and gigs have shaped me into the musician I am.

Ermm.. I can make a really high dolphin like squeak if you want to call that a talent? Haha!

Dale: Who is the joker in the band?

Bret: If Bret Barnes isn’t the joker of the band I will be LIVID!!!

Dale: Hahaha brilliant!!! Who is the most serious?

Bret: Most serious has to be Less Jason.. Ex-Ryders Creed.

Dale: How many songs are we to expect on the EP and are we allowed to know the titles of the songs?

Bret: I can’t confirm nor deny that there are some songs on an EP and some of them may have names…

Dale: Haha I can see why you are the joker! Do you have a first gig already in sight?

Bret: First gig? Or first gigs??

Dale: Tell me something about each member that you think we should know about them.

Bret: Kev! Aka Bev Kacker he can do the most hilarious northern accent.

Chris Hopton drives a ridiculously massive van as a daily driver.

Russ - Have you ever stood next to Russ and questioned your own height?

Lee - Have you ever stood next to Lee and questioned your own height?

Dale: What is your colour, what does it represent.

Bret: My colour is green! Green represents Life.

You’ve been given this time on this earth and when it’s up you’re gone. Make the most out of your life, take the risk, the opportunity, the chance. It’s all yours and you can shape it however you need to!

Dale: I have one final question. What made you join Fireheart?

Bret: What made me join FireHeart… I was free on Mondays hahaha.... Cheers

Dale: Brilliant answers! Thank You.

Russ Grimmett (Singer):

Interviewed April 25th, 2025

Dale: Can you tell me a little of your band background? Your first band and the band you are most proud of before Fireheart?

Russ: My music goes back to birth really, Dad being the Frontman of Grim Reaper, it’s always been in my space and blood.

I started my own originals band called 'Which Way Up' in the 2000’s and that was like pop/rock type vibes. That would have to be my most proud band really, purely because I wrote loads of songs from fresh and got out there as much as possible with no social media and nothing other than pure gigging etc..

'Sons...' is always a belter because we have so much fun, but until now, I’d not been involved in the writing process really.

Dale: The role you have in Fireheart isn't just playing, it is also spreading a message of unity and family. Is this the only band you have been in that has been so interactive with the fan base?

Russ: I’ve always tried to be interactive with the fan base, dad was the same and always made it clear that the fans come first, they are what helps the band rise and become more known and what support the band. If it wasn’t for them, the band wouldn’t exist!

Dale: What musician has influenced you the most?

Russ: My dad. The energy and passion he put in throughout his career was nothing short of incredible.

Dale: Russ, have you only ever been a singer or do you have any other talents?

Russ: I started playing piano in primary school, then drums in secondary school, then started singing as I enjoyed it during the latter years of my GCSE’s and picked up the guitar to learn to write songs from around 17.

Dale: Who is the joker in the band?

Russ: We’re all jokers! We love to have a laugh.. I’m a major prankster and love to laugh as much as possible. Bret it the most quick witted though.. he’s hilarious!

Dale: Who is the most serious?

Russ: Probably me and Kev really. I am dedicated and always try to go an extra mile with everything.

Dale: How many songs are we to expect on the EP and are we allowed to know the titles of the songs?

Russ: 5 songs (at the moment)

Staring At The Sun

Inner Remedy

Song 3

Song 4

Song 5

HAHAHA we don’t want to give too much away!

Dale: Do you have a first gig already in sight?

Russ: We have some dates in mind and an idea of what we’re going to do for the live launch, but not set in stone. We have had so many festival offers and tour offers it’s been bonkers! But watch this space.. Fireheart LIVE is coming!

Dale: Tell me something about each member that you think we should know about them.

Russ: As follows -

Kev – Loves a Capybara and a hug.

Lee – Loves bouncing rude words off me, we do chuckle about this (He also loves a bath!)

Chris – Him and I are business partners and run our own music studio (his missus is also the worlds strongest woman and can probably bench press an elephant)

Bret – Is a kind soul, lives on a boat and loves land rovers… he also has a picture on the internet of him with no beard.

Dale: What is your colour, what does it represent.

Russ: Red – Passion. It represents the passion of life and everything we do. I put passion into everything I do, especially music! It is what burns my soul alive.

Dale: What made you join Fireheart?

Russ: I didn’t really “join” as such as Kev, Lee and I started it up. Even though Kev and Lee were already talking about a band together, I was trying to put another project together. I had a concept for for some time. I had the concept, name, and branding idea that I wanted to do one day with the right people. It all fell together quite nicely.

Dale: Are you still involved with Sons of Liberty?

Russ: Yes, absolutely.

Dale: Thankyou for your time. Made me laugh. Can't wait for the new single.
