Eternal Idol - Behind A Vision
(Frontiers Music SRL - 2025)

(Genre: Melodic Metal)
Hailing from Italy, Eternal Idol deliver their third album release ‘Behind A Vision’. After some line-up changes saw two new singers in Gabrielle Gozzi and Letizia Merlo join the ranks, head songwriter and guitarist Nick Savio was ready to deliver this revamped version of Eternal Idol.
The sound is centred around a melodic metal style, adding symphonic arrangements to give it broader feel. The two new vocalists fit nicely into the overall sound and the male female contrast is executed well across the albums eleven tracks.
‘Amnesia’ is the poening song, with the aforementioned male/female vocal dynamic on full show. It is a serviceable song to open proceedings, leaving to think there is more in the tank for the band to deliver. ‘The Enemy’ lets the vocal duo capture the attention again, as does Enrico Fabris on drums. The symphonic touches adding extra melodic texture on this track.
Nick Savio scale’s up the symphonic sound for ‘Empire of One’ and Fabris starts to show he is quite a dynamic dynamo on the drums. ‘Vampire’ uses Letizia Merlo’s female vocal more, giving it a sound that reminds me of Within Temptation. ‘Battle of Souls’ sees Savio let loose with an impressive guitar solo and Fabris’ powerful drumming is the songs foundation. It once again gives off a Within Temptation vibe at times.
There is an epic feel to ‘Beyond The Sun’ as musically it shows what Eternal Idol are capable of. Both vocalists are very good here and the use of Italian sung lyrics is well executed. ‘Revolution’ is full of hard rock energy, making it an enjoyable listen.
One of my favourite songs on the album is ‘The Idol’. The Within Temptation comparisons appear again but it is Gabriele Gozzi’s male vocal that comes across strong here. Fabris delivers more great drum work on this track too.
Savio crafts a delightful soundscape for ‘The Eye of God’ allowing Gozzi and Merlo to shine on vocals. Probably my favourite track on the album is ‘The Great Illusion’, Savio and co are on top form. Closing out the album is ‘Krystal’. It really leans fully into the direction of Within Temptation in the best way possible. Both vocals are great and Savio plays some of his best guitar work on the album.
In conclusion this is a decent melodic metal album from the Eternal Idol. It will certainly appeal to fans of Within Temptation and the like. I haven’t heard the band’s earlier albums but can say for fans who are familiar with Eternal Idol’s previous releases.
The new vocal duo shine in Nick Savio’s songwriting hands.
