Vambo – S/T
(Goliath Records / Universal Records – 2019)
An amazing, fresh and striking elaborate rock band who deliver the highest-quality songs both vocally and musically who have elements of top-of-the-tree, cream-of-the-crop bands of the early and mid 70's with the likes of Uriah Heep and Queen coming to mind straight away and maybe a bit of The Darkness too.
So many mindblowing songs on this self-titled debut that kicks off with the elaborate 'Now You See Me' and followed up with the exceptional 'Why Why Why' where Vocalist, Jack Stiles comes across like a reborn Freddie Mercury with the squeal of Roger Taylor. The line-up is completed with Pete Lance (Guitar); James Scott (Bass) and Steve Price (Drums) who play an ace from their sleeves every single time.
Other highlights (apart from the entire album to be honest) include the cowbell funkinessof 'Cry Woman'; the Deep Purple like 'World Of Misery'; 'Down Little Mama' for it's melody and beautiful vocals, 'Running In Circles' with its soaring guitar work; the bluesy 'Vambo Rules' or the driving at full throttle closer that is 'Fast Car'. It's little wonder they have already played festivals like Download, Isle Of Wight and HRH.
Definitely a band to keep tabs on for the future as they have what is needed to keep the Rock flame burning for many years to come yet.
