Shadyhawk – Portraits Of Strangers

(S/R – 2016)

They come from Buffalo, New York and not the South which is very surprising indeed as they sound very real mccoy. A trio made up of George Allen Davis (Vocals/Guitar); Rex Worth (Bass) & Jim Dee (Drums) and recorded at George's own Ten Pines Studio.

Southern Rock with a bit of Grunge thrown in – as their bio goes, think Skynyrd meets Soundgarden – that ain’t too wrong either! I do hear a lot of Neil Young influence in there too.

Standouts include the opening ‘Sinner’s Grin’ with the great use of slide guitar; the beautiful ‘Forgotten Girl’; the title cracking track ‘Portrait Of Strangers’ or  ‘All That it Takes’ with its twangy, echoey guitar soloing.

A torn between genres album that works really well.

7.5/10
