Rust N' Rage - Songs of Yesterday

(Frontiers Music SRL - 2025)

(Hard Rock)

Rust N’ Rage are a Finnish band whose sound rides the line between hard rock and heavy metal. Their new album ‘Songs of Yesterday’ showcases this perfectly across its ten tracks. Vince (Vocals), Johnny (Guitars), Jezzie (Drums) and Eddy (Bass) have cultivated a sound that draws inspiration from the likes of Guns N Roses, Judas Priest, Motley Crue and Dokken. All of which can be heard within the Rust N’ Rage musical framework.

Eddy’s chugging bass riff and Jezzie’s pounding drums power along the hard rocking opener ‘One For All (All For One)’, with anthemic quality. The Title track follows and is a decent song with big drums, hooks and riffs aplenty, plus a well delivered solo from Johnny on guitars. ‘Just Like Brothers’ is another anthemic track where Johnny offers more guitar goodness. Jezzie is also in fine form behind the drums in this track too. There is a ‘hair metal’ style to ‘Hey Jane’ which delivers its fair share of hooks and groove. ‘Gone but never forgotten’ is an underwhelming ballad at the midway point of the album. It exposes the nasally sound to Vince’s vocals a little too much, which are a minor irritation at times throughout proceedings.

‘Rollin’ till the morning’ is a track full of hard rock energy and solid guitar work again. Jezzie’s drumming impresses once more, creating an infectious beat. ‘Open fire’ allows Jezzie more time to shine behind the drumkit. Johnny also open’s fire on the frets, producing more guitar class. Catchy hooks and one of Vince’s better vocals are found on ‘I am the one’. Power ballad ‘Gave it all I got’ is the stand out song on the album for me. Vince delivers his best vocal performance on the album and Johnny is sublime on guitars. ‘Fire it up’ makes sure the album goes out with a bang. Electric riffs and pounding drums drive the song hard. The chorus is catchy, anthemic and easy to singalong to while raises your fist in the air or headbanging away!

‘Songs of Yesterday’ is little more than 30 minutes of hard rock action, making it easy to hit the play button once its done and dusted. Rust N’ Rage are a good band who should appeal to old school rockers and younger fans in equal measure. With this album and 16 years under their belts. Rust N Rage appear to have hit their musical stride so give this Finnish Foursome a listen…!
