The Amatory Murder - The Sounds of Seven Angels

(S/R - 2025)

(Genre: Alt Rock)

The Amatory Murder are a Brooklyn based Alt Rock band releasing their latest album ‘The Sounds of Seven Angels’.

There is Goth Rock, Punk and hints of Jazz mixed into their sound. This gives The Amatory Murder an interesting, eccentric at times sound. Xain Murder (Vocals) Binx Noir (Bass) Jake 'Motormouth' Haimowitz (Guitar) & Scott Genovese (Drums) deliver 12 tracks on ‘The Sounds of Seven Angels’.

‘Isolation’ is a creepy, atmospheric intro full of anticipation building atmosphere. ‘Velvet Noose’ blends goth rock, grunge rock and even hints of Nu Metal with its infectious energy. The bass work from Binx Noir and guitar playing from Jake Haimowitz are a high point within the track.

The distorted energy of ‘Speakeasy’ gives the song a unique energy. The synth touches, use of saxophone and the anxiety fuelled vocal from Xain Murder all impress. There are also some well placed bass lines thrown in the mix by Noir again too. Track 4 is the short atmospheric saxophone lead instrumental ‘Inside:Outside’. It evokes images of a rundown jazz bar in the early hours of broken town.

‘Dystopian Holiday’ is a rather jarring listen due to the vocal style used. The drumming from Scott Genovese does do the track some favours however. ‘Lessons for the Damned’ is a short creepy interlude track, adding to the albums eccentric sound.

There is a heavy Trent Reznor/Nine Inch Nails sound to ‘Say Hey (to Doomsday)’ and the bass work stands out once again. ‘Desert Song’ is another atmospheric instrumental, full of nice bass tone and tasteful guitar touches. There has been little dislike from the album so far.

Track 9 is the punky ‘Gypsies and Vagabonds’. It is my least favourite song but I’m sure the punk rockers out there will fully embrace and enjoy it. Next is ‘Embrace’ which is one of the strongest tracks on the album, the musicality of this Brooklyn bunch is in full swing!

‘PTSD’ offers another short interlude before the albums closing song ‘Revelation’. There is good hard rock energy in the album closer with the drum and guitar work at the forefront. Unfortunately the vocals are jarring at times which lets down an otherwise good closing track.

The Amatory Murder have released an album that fans of alt rock, punk or goth rock will enjoy. Their diverse, unique style is showcased strongly on ‘The Sounds of Seven Angels’.

It won’t kill you to give this album a listen and see if these Brooklyn rockers are worth a place in your music collection!
