Carmine Appice / Fernando Perdomo Project- Energy Overload

(Purple Pyramid Records – 2021)

Carmine Appice Fernando Perdomo Project - Enegry Overload USE.jpg

One of those virtually all-instrumental albums on that's got a real driving force to it plus as you can imagine plenty of impossible somersaults and contortional musical moves throughout. It features Drum Legend, Carmine Appice and American born, Producer/Session Guitarist/Bassist, Fernando Perdomo unveiling some brand spanking new stuff plus a couple of oldies but goldies.

A fine start in the tongue-in-cheek 'Blow Speaker Boogie' that has Jazz-Rock Fusion written all over it or later racing title-track 'Energy Overload' features none other than keyboard maestro, Derek Sherinian as does the grooving but complex number 'Pure Ecstasy' that has a really likeable positivity about it.

'Maybe I'm Amazed' is an absolute diamond of a cut and easily matches the original by Paul McCartney or the cover by Faces even though it's vocal free apart from some backing harmonies from Pink Floyd backing vocalist, Durga McBroom. The reworking of 'Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?' is a what the f*ck kinda number since the guys have turned it into a reggae piece that has a riff in there that reminds me of Michael Jackson's Beat it'.

Excellent closer too in 'Thunder' that sees Carmine do battles against the keyboards but I think its a draw on the winning front. Oh hang on there's a short secret jam tagged on at the end. Not had an undisclosed song thrown on an album in ages.

Good going!

8/10
