An interview with

'Carla Elkapath'

Lead Vocalist of

'Elkapath'

that took place on 7th, May 2025

who play Mountains Of Metal @ Network, Sheffield on

Saturday July 5th, 2025.

Interviewed by Glenn Milligan.

Glenn: Tell us all about how your band came to be and what roles you all have?

Carla: Elkapath started off as a solo online electronic project by Me (Carla) a long time ago.. after singing my own songs at open mic nights and decided I wanted to do more and turned it into a full band.

I had a friend called Elliott who became the first guitarist of Elkapath. At first, we just jammed in my living room he played along to my synth tracks and I really liked how the guitars sounded with my electronic music.

Later, Chris Horwood-Jones became our drummer. I had to learn all about click tracks, so did a lot of learning as I went along. After a few line-up changes to find the right people, we recorded our first album, 'Black Spiders' in 2021.

We all have our own roles. Songs are written electronically by me and then we can all put our own ideas into each song. On the first album it was just Me (Carla) writing all songs but recently we have been writing more songs together for our next album due in 2026.

So it's going to be a lot more interesting and varied in musical direction. But we all know what Elkapath is musically and it has a certain sound that I think is different from what others are doing in similar genres.

Glenn: Where did you name initially come from?

Carla: The name Elkapath came from me sitting at work on a sewing machine and it said elk on one side and path on the other side and I thought, 'hmm Elkapath would sound good as a musician name' so I stuck with that name ever since and never changed it.

Glenn: Who would you say have been your main inspirations and influences and why either individually or as a band unit?

Carla: My influences vocally are Kate Bush. I was always drawn more to the girly higher pitched vocals growing up. This would include me singing along to ravers 2unlimited, some pop Britney Spears and Avril Lavigne. My influence for writing electronic styles however would from The Prodigy and more darker sounding stuff influences come from Horror films like 80's classics, e.g. The Puppet Master.

Glenn: How would you describe your band to somebody who had never heard you before that will be seeing you live on Saturday July 5th?

Carla: Dark, energetic, enchanting, Heavy, weird and wonderful.

Glenn: What songs / albums are you most proud of that you have released so far and for what reasons?

Carla: Our songs 'Black Spiders' and 'Show Me'. Album-wise, 'Black Spiders' as it was how this all started, so the album reminds me of how far we have come now.

Glenn: What would you say have been the most stand-out moments/highlights in the bands career so far and why?

Carla: I feel this is our best year yet we are playing so many big festivals and the lovely things people say to us after a show just makes it even more worth it.

Glenn: What have been the funniest, most Spinal Tap moments in the band?

Carla: Drinking pink gin with bands back stage was a bad idea as that really went to my head and I was dancing around like a crazy person. Ross (our Bassist) throwing up after eating kebab pizza from Gizmos in Morecombe. We now nickname him Gizmo.

Glenn: What revs you up and gets you going before getting on stage?

Carla : If we are not first on the bill then watching the other bands makes me feel excited. I also like to relax with a pint of cider.

What would you most like to fulfil as a band when it comes to the bucket list?

Carla: To play Bloodstock!

Glenn: What does it mean to you to play the 'Mountains of Metal' All-Dayer alongside the other bands on the bill?

Carla: We love discovering new bands so it's always a pleasure to play beside others who we have not seen before and it means a lot to be invited along.

Glenn: What special message do you have to the folk who are coming to the show?

Carla : Keep supporting the local music scene and grass roots venues, because without them the artists of today would not be where they are now.
