Euphoria - Operation: Genesis

(S/R - 2016)

Just so as to avoid misleading, this album has nothing based round the concept of surgery on Phil Collins. Settling that, speed metallers slash with their blades aimed and sharpened from go.

Heavily more Bay Area than their native Michigan, their line in meaty progressive thrash lies on a very sturdy set of metal sleepers. Snippets including 'Theoretical Conception', 'Primordial Dominance', 'Watchtower, and 'Parasite' enjoy a shrill guitar performance that picks up a lot of Iron Maiden dust along its way, and redistributes it behind in a menacingly dense cloud.

Vocalist, Justin Kelter carries the range of a black metal Dave Mustaine through the most course of the disc, giving to a potentially pleasing crossover appeal even though the solo work may be off-puttingly melodic to the more elitist of the heavier extreme. Made of songs that mostly gravitate round the 6-minute mark, 'Operation Genesis' scarcely scarcely reaches for the tray marked originality but the metal bones inside this body appear very successfully transplanted.

Excellent work, Doctor.

8/10
